DRB-HICOM Berhad (“DRB-HICOM†or “the Groupâ€Â) today reported its financial results for the period of six months ended 30 September 2013 with a 24% increase in profit before tax to RM323.8 million from RM260.6 million in the same period last year mainly due to improved performance of the Group“s automotive and services sectors.
For the second quarter ended 30 September 2013, profit before tax increased to RM227.6 million from RM162.7 million on the back of an increase in revenue to RM3.65 billion from RM3.53 billion for the corresponding period due to improved sales of motor vehicles and growth in the services sector during the quarter.
DRB-HICOM Group Managing Director Tan Sri Dato“ Sri Haji Mohd Khamil Jamil said, “Overall, the automotive and services sectors achieved encouraging performance for the first half of the current financial year. Higher sales of motor vehicles in the current quarter and improving operational efficiency of the concession businesses contributed to the overall results of the automotive and services sectors.â€Â
“Despite the competitive landscape, the Group will continue to proactively enhance the value of its core businesses through strategic corporate initiatives. In line with its business objectives, the Group has completed the acquisition of Composites Technology Research Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. on 4 November 2013 and is expected to complete the acquisition of 61.61% in Konsortium Logistik Berhad in December 2013. The business opportunities arising from the new investments will provide synergies with existing businesses of the Group to achieve business and operational efficiencies and effectiveness which will be able to provide long-term sustainable growth for the Group, †added Tan Sri Dato Sri Haji Mohd Khamil Jamil.

DRB-HICOM Berhad (“DRB-HICOM†or “the Groupâ€Â) today reported its financial results for the first quarter ended 30 June 2013. The Group reported first quarter revenue of RM3.05 billion, marginally lower as compared to the corresponding quarter of RM3.46 billion last year. The decrease was primarily driven by lower sales volume in the automotive sector due to unfavourable market sentiment during the quarter..
Despite overall lower revenue, revenue for its Services sector increased by 0.74% to 644 million while revenue for its Property, Asset and Construction (“PACâ€Â) sector increased by 24% to RM77 million on the back of higher progress of our development projects.
The Group recorded a pre-tax profit of RM96.2 million, a slight decrease of 1.7% as compared to RM97.9 million recorded for the corresponding quarter. This is mainly due to higher interest cost as compared to corresponding quarter.
DRB-HICOM Group Managing Director Tan Sri Dato“ Sri Haji Mohd Khamil Jamil said, “There have been uncertainties in the market where the public had been anticipating reduced vehicle prices. This has contributed to an overall drop in automotive sales for this quarter. However, with the new model launches and attractive sales offerings by the Group“s automotive companies such as the launch of Proton Saga SV in mid-June 2013 and Proton Suprima S in mid-August 2013, we are expecting the sales to improve in the coming months.â€Â
“We are also aware of the current economic condition as Bank Negara Malaysia in its latest report has forecasted a lower economic growth for Malaysia for 2013. We are taking the necessary steps to minimise the effect and will continue to leverage on the diversified businesses within the Group,†added Tan Sri Dato“ Sri Haji Mohd Khamil Jamil.
