PEKAN, PAHANG, 22 Januari 2008 (Selasa): DRB-HICOM Berhad, organisasi peneraju bidang automotif negara, mengambil berbagai inisiatif memainkan peranan membantu kakitangan kilangnya di Pekan yang telah terlibat dengan banjir baru-baru ini, walaupun selepas banjir surut. Ini termasuk pemberian sumbangan kewangan berjumlah RM200 setiap orang kepada mangsa banjir kakitangan DRB-HICOM Pekan.
Majlis Pengurniaan Sumbangan kepada kakitangan mangsa banjir tersebut telah disempurnakan oleh Kebawah Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Tengku Puan Pahang, Tunku Hajjah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah binti Almutawakkil ‘Alallah Sultan Iskandar di kilang DRB-HICOM di Pekan hari ini. Turut hadir di majlis tersebut ialah Tuan Haji Mohd Redza Shah Abdul Wahid, Pengarah Eksekutif dan Ketua Pegawai Operasi Kumpulan DRB-HICOM Berhad dan Tuan Haji Nisbar Mohamad Nasib, Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif, Automotive Manufacturers (M) Sdn Bhd.
Haji Nisbar ketika memberikan ucapan alu-aluan berkata; “Seramai 359 orang kakitangan kami daripada jumlah keseluruhan 1,541 orang di Pekan, telah terlibat dengan banjir dan majoritinya telah dipindahkan ke Pusat-pusat Pemindahan Banjir sepanjang berlakunya banjir di antara 13 hingga 27 Disember 2007 lalu.â€Â
Banjir tersebut antara yang terburuk pernah melanda Negeri Pahang khususnya Daerah Pekan sejak banjir besar terakhir pada tahun 1971, telah menjejaskan operasi kilang apabila ramai kakitangan yang tidak hadir bekerja akibat tempat kediaman ditenggelami air dan penutupan jalan raya-jalan raya utama.
Sebagai syarikat yang prihatin akan kebajikan warga kerjanya, pelbagai bentuk bantuan disediakan antaranya:
Menyediakan makanan percuma di kantin kilang berserta kemudahan pengangkutan untuk mengambil dan menghantar kakitangan termasuk keluarga dari pusat-pusat pemindahan banjir ke kantin tersebut.
Menyediakan bantuan makanan dan menghantar barangan keperluan harian terus kepada semua kakitangan ke rumah masing-masing.
Membeli sebuah bot penumpang bagi membantu mangsa banjir dan sebagai persediaan menghadapi situasi yang sama pada masa hadapan.
Menghantar satu pasukan khas terdiri daripada tujuh buah kenderaan yang lengkap dengan peralatan seperti ‘water jet“ bagi membantu kerja-kerja pembersihan rumah ke rumah termasuk masjid-masjid dan surau-surau.
Haji Nisbar menjelaskan; “Bukan menjadi dasar syarikat untuk mengamalkan pemberian ganti rugi, tetapi ini adalah sumbangan wang ihsan dengan objektif meringankan beban kewangan kos membaikpulih tempat kediaman yang rosak akibat banjir.â€Â
Walaubagaimanapun Haji Nisbar menyuarakan rasa lega kerana fenomena banjir kali ini tidak meninggalkan kesan yang terlalu buruk dari segi kemusnahan harta benda, infrastruktur dan jumlah nyawa terkorban yang boleh melumpuhkan ekonomi daerah Pekan secara keseluruhannya.
“Tindakan kerajaan mahupun pihak swasta serta kerjasama orang ramai telah membolehkan fenomena banjir kali ini dihadapi dengan sewajarnya dan kita semua patut berterima kasih kepada semua pihak yang terlibat yang telah bertungkus-lumus semasa menguruskan kerja pemindahan serta pengagihan bantuan bekalan makanan kepada semua mangsa banjir,†ujar beliau mengakhiri ucapan.

Lake Kenyir Resort and Spa was unveiled in a simple yet elegant reception, making its mark in the tourism industry. Lake Kenyir Resort and Spa in Terengganu, which was previously known as Kenyir Lake View Resort has completed its upgrading and refurbishment exercise this year. Its Chief Executive Officer, Encik Amir Salleh said the massive upgrading and refurbishment exercise, which involved 135 chalets, the Main Lobby, Tembat Restaurant, Jenagor Bar & Lounge, Ulik Mayang Spa, Conference Facilities as well as staff hostel has been carried out in phases since December 2006.
“Besides renovating the property, we have also taken steps to improve our services by focusing on training and development of manpower to complement our improved product facilities. We have also made efforts to upgrade the hotel operating system with the resolute goal of creating better experience for our customers. We have spent about RM 10 million for the exercise,†Encik Amir Salleh said.
He added, “We wish to position Lake Kenyir Resort and Spa as the only international class resort located in Lake Kenyir, Terengganu, the country“s largest and most fascinating lake, which spans over 260,000 hectares. Even though Malaysian arrivals have been dominating the overall market, there has been a positive increase and strong interest shown by the foreign markets especially European, followed by the Singaporean, to the resort. He said his sales teams are stepping up tourism promotion efforts overseas and anticipated an increase in the number coming to the resort this year, to take advantage of the strong European currency, as well as regional and domestic markets.
“I expect foreign guests to increase between 12 and 15 percent by end of this year,†he added. The resort expects its average room rate to rise from the current RM170 to RM200 following its rebranding exercise.
Lake Kenyir Resort and Spa also serves as an alternative gateway to Taman Negara that straddles Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan.
